2020 WATERFORD HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION
We are extremely excited to announce that the Stanislaus County Office of Public Health has agreed to allow a modified graduation ceremony to be held celebrating the graduating class of 2020. Waterford Unified School District is committed to ensure safety for our graduates, family members and school staff. Security will be assisting with the graduate check-in. In order to meet the limited gathering guidelines, the ceremony will be held in a “drive-in movie” format. Below are answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) and additional guidelines to permit all participants to enjoy the ceremony.
Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Does my student have to participate in the Promotion/Graduation Event? If I don’t want my student to participate, will I receive a refund for the cap and gown?
No. Student participation is voluntary but we strongly encourage students to enjoy a culminating ceremony of their Waterford High School experience. Refunds will not be issued for caps and gowns.
We have a large family or parents do not live in the same household? Can we bring two cars to the ceremony?
No. Due to the limited number of parking spaces available at the back field, we can only permit one conventional car per graduate. No commercially rented vehicles, RVs, or other oversized vehicles. Seating capacity is limited to number of seatbelts. The ceremony will be live streamed on social media for additional family and friends.
Can my graduate wear a flower lei or carry flowers to the stage/picture area? What should my graduate wear?
No. Students are to wear only caps and gowns over business casual clothing. We are also recommending that graduates wear flat shoes, as graduates will be walking a long distance to the stage across a grass field.
What safety precautions will be taken during the ceremony?
All staff working the graduation event will be wearing face masks and practicing social distancing. Graduates will be provided a face mask upon arrival to the WHS campus for the event. In addition, during the event, graduates will be directed by staff to maintain social distance in route to receive diplomas and return to their vehicles.
May family members get out of their vehicles at the Graduation ceremony?
No. To work with the safety guidelines of our local officials, only graduates may get out of the vehicles during the ceremony. Two large screens will be erected so families may get a good view of the stage.
May we decorate our cars to celebrate our graduate?
Yes. Flat posters, signs, streamers and writing on car windows are acceptable. Decorations cannot obstruct the view of others.
Will there be a professional photographer at graduation?
Yes. Photos will be taken of graduates after receiving diplomas. Order information will be available on the school website and the graduate check in form.
Where can I find the Livestream for my family members to watch?
