Happy Birthday Mickey Mouse!! Since today is Mickey Mouse's Birthday we thought it would be fun to learn a few facts about him.... Fact #1: Mickey has starred in over 121 theatrical releases, including shorts and featurettes. Fact #2: Mickey was the first cartoon character to earn a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! His star was added on November 18, 1978. Fact #3: Mickey has different names around the world. For example, he is known as Musse Pigg in Sweden, Mi Lao Shu in China and Topolino in Italy. Fact #4: Walt Disney’s original name for Mickey was Mortimer! However, his wife Lillian Disney felt that it didn’t work for the character Walt had created and hence, she suggested Mickey! Fact #5: Mickey’s first phrase was his now-famous “Hot dog! Hot dog!” Fact #6: Mickey’s first appearance was in Steamboat Willie in 1928. The tune that he whistles is from the song “Steamboat Bill” by Arthur Collins. Fact #7: The first person to give Mickey his voice was none other than Walt Disney himself! Fact #8: While Steamboat Willie was Mickey’s very first appearance, he made his feature film debut in Fantasia in 1940. Fact #9: Mickey has made two special appearances at the Academy Awards over the years: once in 1988 and another in 2003. He presented the Oscar for Best Animated Short film on both occasions.

Today is National Recycle Day so lets see some of your pictures recycling at home! Just post them in our comments! Children’s Tips for Recycling, Reducing and Reusing Recycling does not have to be difficult. With the tips below, anyone can recycle and help our environment for current and future generations: Reduce the amount of products you buy, use and throw away Set up a recycling bin. Your home should be equipped with recycling bins throughout the house. Make it easy to separate recyclables from other trash. Recycle as many cans, bottles, books, metal, aluminum, glass, newspapers and electronics you can Reuse things as much as you can – turn that old t-shirt into a car rag! Shut off the water when brushing your teeth Instead of paper napkins, use a washcloth for each member of the family. Keep the washcloths in a drawer for the week and use them at each meal. Wash them as needed. This can encourage the whole family to stop buying disposable paper products altogether. Unplug chargers for your cell phone when not using it Put your PC to sleep instead of leaving it running with the screen on Turn off lights you are not using

Why is today Kindness Day? World Kindness Day: November 13, is seen and celebrated as the World Kindness Day. It is celebrated with the aim of spreading kindness through small gestures and creating a positive environment. It is celebrated to end the notion of hate against each other and to promote peace. Your act of kindness will continue to change peoples lives every single day. It will never end. You may not realize it, but we naturally do acts of kindness every day — without even knowing. Putting your dishes away, doing nice things without being asked, or feeding your pet are all small acts of kindness.

Today we celebrate Veterans Day on November 11th. Did you know there are Veterans Day Symbols? Special symbols of remembrance can be found in many parts of the United States. These symbols are meant to honor the country's wartime dead and living. They also help to remind Americans of the great sacrifices people made for their country's freedom. Tomb of the unknowns- The tomb contains the remains of unknown American soldiers who died in World War I, and the World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. These soldiers stand for every American who has died for their country. The tomb serves as America's promise to promise and freedom. More than 4 million Americans visit the tomb each year. Poppies- After World War I, an American named Moina Michael began selling paper poppies. The money she raised was used to support war veterans. The poppy became an official memorial flower in 1922. Americans wear poppies on their coats and hats to honor those who served the United States in war and in peace. Memorials- One of the most important memorials in the United States Marine Corps Memorial. It is located in Washington, D.C. The statue shows the raising of the United States flag atop Mount Suribachi in Japan during World War II. It is dedicated to the U.S. Marine Corps, who have defended the United States since 1775.

On National Johnny Appleseed Day, we honor the man who made apple (and pear) trees grow heavy with the bounty of their fruit across most of this country. On September 26, we commemorate the day of his birth and celebrate his legendary wit, wisdom and enduring story. Johnny Appleseed is the outdoorsman who is said to have traveled on foot across the United States planting apple trees. He was a real person, actually, although some aspects of his life were mythologized over time. John Chapman was born in Massachusetts in 1774. He planted large numbers of apple trees in what was the American wilderness two hundred years ago. Chapman grew trees and supplied apple seeds to settlers in the middle western Great Lakes area. ... As a result of stories and poems about Chapman's actions, Johnny Appleseed became an American hero. In honor of him you could plant an apple tree, pick apples, bake an apple pie, make hot apple cider, or dip apples in carmel for a fun treat!

Let’s celebrate storytelling in math! Reading stories to combine literacy and math benefits children and helps them grow. A child can grow in language, vocabulary, and mathematical understandings by reading a story that illustrates math. Reading stories where children see math in real life makes the math they are learning in school relevant and interesting. Children can also see how language can be used to explain math. Seeing mathematical language in real life stories can help your child see how they can also find a way to detail their problem-solving in math. Today, the day that storytelling and math is celebrated, let’s stop and listen to a book being read to you in the link below. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Bc8Yi14W4wE&t=14s

As we remember the anniversary of 9/11 and the lives lost let's take a look at the museum they have made in memory. The 9/11 Memorial Museum opened on May 21, 2014. It is located beneath the Memorial Plaza. Visitors enter the Museum through the Pavilion, where two steel “tridents”—remnants of the North Tower’s façade—stand in the building’s Atrium Terrace. The main exhibition space is located seven stories below the 9/11 Memorial at the bedrock foundations of the World Trade Center. The Museum offers displays of artifacts from the WTC and 9/11 attacks, interactive exhibitions, contemplative areas, and programs that convey individual and collective stories relating the experiences of survivors, first responders, area residents, and eyewitnesses. A memorial exhibition honors the individual victims of the attacks. Here is the YouTube link for more information https://youtu.be/UmrRb3h52u0
