WUSD BOARD MEETINGS

Welcome

Waterford Unified School District encourages you to attend WUSD School Board meetings. Board meetings are an excellent way of becoming better informed about WUSD schools. Board meetings are usually held the second Thursday of each month in the Board Room (room 7) located at Waterford Junior High School, located at 12916 Bentley Street. Meetings begin with a closed session with open session beginning at 7:00 pm.

Participation

Participation of WUSD Board meetings is encouraged and all are open to the public. This is an excellent way to learn more about WUSD policies and programs. In matters regarding personnel, student matters and collective bargaining issues as required by Government Education Code will be discussed during the closed session which is held prior to open session. Complaints regarding individual employees will not be open to discussion during open meetings.

Agenda Availability

The agenda and supporting public documents are available for viewing during business hours in the District Office at 219 N. Reinway Avenue, Waterford, CA. It is also available online.

Agenda Postings

Regular Meetings: At least 72 hours prior to the regular meeting, the board must post an agenda containing a brief description of each item of business to be transacted or discussed at the meeting.

Special Meetings: Agendas for Special Meetings are posted 24 hours prior to the meeting. While there is limited authority for a board to act on non-agenized business at regular meetings, no business which is not specifically included in the agenda may be considered or acted upon in special meetings.

Emergency Meetings: In emergency situations entailing threatened or actual disruption of public facilities, the board may hold emergency meeting without compliance with the special meeting 24-hour notice requirement or the 24-hour posting requirement. Emergency situation are defined in Government code 54956.5 as follows:

  • An emergency such as a work stoppage, crippling activity or other activity that severely impairs public health or safety or both, as determined by a majority of members of the boar; or

  • A dire emergency such as a crippling disaster, mass destruction, terrorist act or threatened terrorist activity that poses peril so immediate and significant that requiring the board to provide one-hour notice before holding the meeting may endanger the public health or safety, or both, as determined by a majority of the members of the board.

Invitation to Address the Board

During meeting of the Governing Board (Board), member of the audience have an opportunity to speak regarding subjects or concerns that appear, or do not appear, on the agenda. The Board President reserves the right to limit speaking time to three (3) minutes. Unless the item has been placed on the published agenda in accordance with the Brown Act, there shall be no action taken. The Board may acknowledge receipt of the information, or refer the matter to staff with no direction as to action or priority.

Disability Related Accommodations

Individuals, who require disability-related accommodations or modifications, including auxiliary aids and services, in order to participate in the Board meeting, should contact the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent in writing. Notification 48 hours prior to the meeting will enable the District to make reasonable arrangements to ensure accessibility to the meeting.

BOARD OF EDUCATION TRUSTEES

Waterford Unified School District has a five member Board of Trustees. Board members are elected by the voters residing in their Trustee Area boundaries. Each board member serves a four-year term of office. The President and Clerk of the Board are elected by Board members for a one-year term which runs December through November. Meetings are generally held the second Thursday of the month with regular session starting at 7:00 pm.
